Hiring’s not the problem. Keeping them is.
Last week I asked: Where’s the next generation of freight professionals coming from?
But here’s the thing…
Even when companies do manage to bring in new, younger people, most don’t stay.
Why?
Because the way we run freight operations makes it almost impossible to develop and retain them.
- Tight deadlines
- High-pressure, reactive environments
- Lean teams with no time to train properly
- Zero breathing space for development
We’re so focused on keeping freight moving day to day, there’s little scope to build the next wave of talent.
And when new starters don’t get the support, they leave.
Or worse….they stay, but never get the time or training to step up.
That’s not a recruitment issue.
It’s an ops issue.
Until we fix that, the freight talent gap is only going to get bigger.
What’s your experience?
Are you seeing people leave because there’s no time to develop them?
Or are you struggling to find time to train the people you’ve already got?
